Jordan's Furniture and Cradles to Crayons help local children in-need get ready to learn from head to toe!

Boston, MA, July 9, 2014 -- Starting July 7th and running until September 9th, 2014, all Jordan's Furniture store locations and the Taunton Distribution Center will accept like-new and new clothes and shoes for children (infant to 12 years old) to support the Cradles to Crayons "Ready For School" program. Through partnering social service agencies, the donations will go to children in homeless or low-income situations. This will be the third year for the partnership between the retailer and the organization.

"We are so proud to be working together with Cradles to Crayons. They run an incredibly impressive and efficient operation, ensuring the dignity of the children and families that they serve," said Eliot Tatelman, Jordan's President and CEO. "It is so important for every child to feel important and worthy. By working with the team at Cradles to Crayons, we hope to do our part in helping area children get ready for school and be prepared to learn. We know that our donation drive made an impact during the last 2 years. We hope for the same success this year."

Cradles to Crayons was founded in 2002, with the mission of providing children from birth to age 12 some of the most important basics of life — free of charge. These basics include clothing, school supplies, toys, and much more. By supplying high-quality used or new goods, the organization helps local children in need feel valued.

C2C’s unique business model provides an avenue through which children’s products in good working condition can be recycled in a socially and environmentally responsible way. Working in close partnership with social workers, nurses, teachers, and therapists, Cradles to Crayons has become a trusted resource: to children and families in need; to the organizations who serve those families; and to families, corporations, and individuals who seek ways to make a tangible difference in their own communities.

"We are thrilled to partner with Jordan's for the third year in a row on our Ready for School program," says Sharon Reilly, C2C Executive Director/Boston. "Jordan's commitment to assist local children in-need is a true testament to their values as a company. Cradles to Crayons wants every child to start the new school year feeling confident from head to toe, and Jordan's contribution is crucial to this effort. The items collected in their retail stores will ensure thousands of local children will receive the essential items they need to start the school year ready and excited to learn."

The Jordan's Furniture Cradles to Crayons "Ready For School" donation drive runs until September 9th. Donations will be accepted at all stores locations in Avon MA, Reading MA, Natick, MA, Nashua, NH, and Warwick, RI, along with the Jordan's Distribution Center in Taunton MA. The donation drive strives to provide every child with essentials they need to feel valued, so accepted donations should be like-new or new, with no rips, stains, or tears. Accepted items include pants, shirts, sweatshirts, pajamas (new), socks (new), undergarments (new), sneakers, and school shoes. Donations are for children infant to 12 years old.

Volunteers to sort supplies to be donated at West Conshohocken facility

PHILADELPHIA– Citizens Bank will hold a news conference on Tuesday, July 29 to announce its annual Gear for Grades initiative. Citizens Bank will donate $50,000 to West Conshohocken-based nonprofit Cradles to Crayons to support its goal of distributing 24,000 backpacks with school supplies for children through its Ready for School campaign. Retailer holds month-long collection drive ending Friday, August 29.
15% of sales on final night to be donated to Cradles to Crayons to benefit local children

August 8– Ten Thousand Villages’ retail outlets in southeastern Pennsylvania and nearby communities are holding a month-long drive in August to collect needed clothes, footwear and school supplies for area low-income and homeless children, in support of local nonprofit Cradles to Crayons’ efforts to provide the basics the underserved children need to start the new school year “ready to go, from head to toe.”

Shoppers who donate money or bring new and nearly newclothing items or brand-new school supplies for the children during August will receive 25 percent-off coupons for use at participating Ten Thousand Villages store.*

In addition, each Ten Thousand Villages store will earmark 15 percent of its sales on the collection drive’s last night – Friday, August 29, from 3-7 p.m. – for the children served by Cradles to Crayons, the local nonprofit that addresses the poverty faced by more than one in five children, birth to age 12, in the Greater Philadelphia region.

“Ten Thousand Villages is proud to host this important drive that will benefit disadvantaged children in our community,” said Lisa McSain, manager of the Media store. “Along with participating*Ten Thousand Villages’ retail outlets throughout this area, “she said, “we are pleased to join forces with Cradles to Crayons in this event, which represents a ‘win-win-win’ – for the children served by Cradles to Crayons, for our shoppers, and certainly for the artisans worldwide who are responsible for the unique collection of handmade itemssold in our stores.”

The artisans behind Ten Thousand Villages’ unique handmade gifts, jewelry, home decor, art and sculpture, textiles, serveware and personal accessories earn vital income, assured through the retailer’s fair trade practices, which provide upto 50 percent in cash advances when an order is placed, and payment in full when an order is shipped.

“Our 2014 ‘Back to School’ campaign,” noted Cradles to Crayons’ Executive Director Michal Smith, “is designed to help the more than 300,000 children in this region who live in poverty start the new school year off right, and with the confidence they need to succeed…now and in their future. Cradlesto Crayons sincerely appreciates the efforts ofTen Thousand Villages, which is making it possible – and convenient – for shoppers to bring clothes, footwear and other every day children’s essentials that no longer fit, have fallen out of favor, or simply were never used to a nearby Ten Thousand Villages store.”

Ten Thousand Villages represent the diverse cultures of artisans in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. One of the world's largest fair trade organizations, the company strives to improve the livelihood of tens of thousands of disadvantaged artisans in 38 countries. Ten Thousand Villages accomplishes this by establishing a sustainable market for handmade products in North America, and building long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisan partners lack opportunities for stable income.

*The 25 percent-off coupon will be good at participating Ten Thousand Villages locations in Ardmore, Chestnut Hill, Exton, Lehigh Valley, Media, Center City Philadelphia and Souderton in Pennsylvania, and in Wilmington, Delaware from August 30 to October 12, 2014, on a single item, excluding all other discounts, offers and promotions.
